Tape Hints & Tricks
Tape Hints & Tricks

Get the most out of your Pomona adhesive tape by following these guidelines & tips.

Even if the adhesive tape you are using can be applied to almost all materials, we recommend surface testing before application.

Application Surface:

Usually, most adhesive tapes are compatible with a majority of surfaces and materials, but some surfaces may have anti-adhesive properties. Some adhesive tapes may also be affected by a chemical interaction when it comes into contact with the surface.

Some low compatibility surfaces include:

  • Polystyrene
  • Powdered coated paints
  • Acetal plastic
  • Polypropylene

Some high compatibility surfaces include:

  • Stainless steel
  • Polyester
  • Aluminium
  • Nylon

If you are having difficulty with your adhesive tape not sticking to the surface, primers are an excellent way to increase the compatibility of the surface and the adhesive tape.

Best Application Temperatures:

We recommend an application temperature that ranges between 15°C and 25°C. It is not recommended to apply the tape in temperatures lower than 10°C.

For tape that is recommended for cold temperatures, it is best to apply the tape in the recommended temperature range first.

For the best results we recommend:

  • Wiping the surface with a clean cloth first, as surfaces should be free from dust particles.
  • Do not apply the adhesive tape on surfaces that are treated or contaminated by anti-adhesives.
  • In case of rough and irregular surfaces, it is better to use a tape with higher quality adhesive.
  • some adhesive tapes need the assistance of extra tools such as a pressure roller for better bonding results.

Adhesive Tape Self Life:

Self-adhesive tapes technical features are generally not permanent but remain at their best for approximately 12 months, if stored according to the suggested conditions.
